"It's still happening. There are still dog fighting rings and people profiteering on the desire to see suffering and death 'up close.'
The laws are in place -- but until they are enforced, this travesty will continue to occur."

From Rochester NY

Here is a story that lays it out about as clearly as this problem can be laid out to people who only read  about it.  The entire story gives you every facet of the problem.

People who are torturing dogs and training them to fight  are never prosecuted unless law enforcement offcials catch  them in the act ! And even then the punishment is not commensurate with  the crime and they end up being repeat offenders.

Pit Bull fighting is NOT a one time lapse of judgment. It represents a lifestyle dedicated to animal abuse and that is how it needs to be treated.

If there was a law that people caught one time are prosecuted for this FELONY crime, they could never  own dogs again, then animal control would not have to  keep catching the exact same people "in the act" over  and over again.

This is a dangerous crime to prosecute in urban areas. This wont solve the problem entirely but it would give animal control officers some incentive to begin taking  more risks to apprehend dog fighters.

*****  If anyone wants to set up Google alerts for specific  dog oriented topics and can't figure out how to do that at the website above, send me a message offline and I will  help you with it.  That is how I get my stories for the group below and  then I use Google to research the rest of it.  A lot of newspapers remove stories from their website after a very short time frame and if you don't find them  reasonably quickly they are gone forever.

3 pit bulls taken from city home; dog fighting suspected

To help The Humane Society offers a $2,500 reward for information leading to  the conviction of a person involved in dog fighting.  Instances of cruelty to animals should be reported to the Animal  Cruelty Hotline at (585) 223-6500. All calls are confidential.  Enid Arbelo Staff writer

(October 28, 2004) — Three dogs, two of which may have been used in  dog fighting, were taken from a Rochester home Tuesday night,  investigators said.

Investigators from The Humane Society at Lollypop Farm took the  three pit bull terriers after following up on an anonymous tip, said  Richard Gerbasi, vice president of operations and field services.   Two of the dogs were emaciated and dehydrated.

The third was a  puppy, and although it seemed healthy, investigators said they did  not want to leave it in an unsafe situation.

There was the possibility that if the other dogs were used for  fighting, the puppy might have been bred for the same purpose,  Gerbasi said.  Investigators would not say where the dogs were found, adding that  the case is still under investigation.

"The dogs had fresh and old bite wounds about the head, face and  body that indicate they may have been used in dog fighting," Andrew  Newmark, Lollypop Farm chief veterinarian, said in a release.

"Their emaciated condition indicates the dogs have not had proper  care or nutrition for a fair amount of time."

Gerbasi said dog fighting is resurfacing in the area.   "We give attention to it and it hides," he said. "They head to  another area like Pennsylvania, and then as that area heats up they  will rotate through again."   The prosecution of people involved in dog fighting is difficult  because the law stipulates that they must be caught in the act.

Gerbasi recalled a 2003 raid at a location on Mt. Read Boulevard in  which investigators seized two bloodied pit bulls and $3,000 in  cash.   Fourteen people were arrested, but no one was ever convicted for dog  fighting, Gerbasi said.  EARBELO@ DemocratandChronicle.com

  • The law of the United States of America is being tarnished for profit!

Ann Veneman,  Secretary of Agriculture friend of Monsanto and was on the board of directors of Calgene.

The infamous HLS is conducting research for MONSANTO, one of the leading developers of GM crops and a company under scrutiny worldwide for animal welfare violations.

The USDA is know to ignore animal welfare violations and the animal welfare act of August 24, 1966.

From laboratories to the class b dealers the USDA protects all in question. Why?

                     USDA Ignores HLS violations.

There are thousands of violations and menial fines paid out, fines that do not effect this company, the same to be said with Covance, and  Charles River laboratories.

Does the government have the right to ignore animal welfare laws set up by the federal government?  The animals being used are not reliable models for research and this has been proven over and over again by the meds tested on them put out into the market later killing hundreds of thousands of humans. These animals suffer needlessly and humans in turn die needlessly. People are dying for profits made for these companies.

What kind of person can approve this?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA),  rarely charges a registered research laboratory with violating laws protecting animals

The new Secretary of Agriculture, Ann Veneman, is a friend of Monsanto. She was on the Board of Directors of Calgene, the biotech company that became a Monsanto subsidiary. Is this why she ignores the USDA violations against so many companies?

We are a country founded on truth and fairness. What will we become if we ignore this as Americans? There must be justice and it must always be upheld no matter what the cost. We must look at the future of this country. Laws are being ignored for favors and friendships. THIS IS NOT FAIR. Are we not a  FAIR COUNTRY. I have always been proud of my country, but I am becoming disheartened.

This has been sent to my family members, shall anything happen to me, so that they know the truth of these atrocities. These lies, they do not end with HLS, the go on, on with Covance, Charles River and all of the fraudulent Pharmaceutical companies that are entertwined in this evil web of lies and deceit.

These pharmaceutical companies are killing millions, the same pharmaceutical companies the companies I mention above prove these meds safe. Pharmaceuticals are now one of the top killers of Americans.  This is not about, just Monsanto, its about all of the companies the USDA is protecting. These companies that are killing, torturing millions of animals for fraudulent purposes. These companies that are known to botch records to get the pharmaceuticals on the market, they make millions on these meds before they are pulled off the market, that later kill hundreds of thousands of people, companies such as Wyeth drugs, Parke Davis, Bayer, Abbot, Hoffman-La Roche, TAP pharmaceuticals and Merck etc.

There are recalls into the thousands. These drugs put out by these companies have caused death, strokes, loss of limbs and deformities. Drugs said to be safe after being tested on animals.

     Where does it end?

I am a Lincoln my last name by blood is Lincoln I from Kentucky I am a direct descendent of President Lincoln. I have always loved my country and what we represent as a whole.

I am ashamed at what is happening to this country and the dishonesty behind it.  The truth cannot be hidden for long and the truth will always prevail. We must to the right thing. This is about honesty not greed. This is about humanity. This is about ending the exploitation of animals to protect these pharmaceutical for liabilities sake.

Many people say about those that speak out, that we are radicals, we are crazy, brainwashed etc. I care about the earth, my country, human beings and the animals we inhabit this earth with. If this makes me all of the things above then so be it. I know right from wrong. This is what I am founded on.

God be with us and our country.

I am only one but I count and I will be heard!
